AT last, summer finally arrived - and with it some rather reckless and foolhardy behaviour that could have ended in tragedy.

It is understandable that when the sun shines people want to go out and have a good time, to be a bit adventurous, and to lark about.

That's all very well, but there needs to be a limit.

The young man who swam to the island in the middle of the lake at Mouldon Hill, in Swindon, no doubt thought his feat of bravado was a great laugh, and no doubt it cooled him down on a very hot day.

But having reached the island, he couldn't get back and the fire brigade was called out to rescue him.

A Royal Navy helicopter was scrambled to rescue a Swindon man who fell 50ft while attempting to climb up a cliff face in South Wales.

From our pictures, the stretch of coastline looks beautiful and to reach the top of the cliff would have been quite an achievement for even the most experienced climber.

A local man said he'd never seen anyone attempt to climb that cliff before, and considering what happened on Sunday, it is perhaps easy to see why.
