A FATHER-OF-TWO was whisked away on a special family weekend by a national charity.

Tony Lowe, of Ash Brake, who has been diagnosed with cancer, spent the weekend at Center Parcs, in Longleat - courtesy of the Willow Foundation.

The trip was a chance to get away from the day-to-day problems that having a long-term illness brings.

Tony, 38, was joined on the trip by his wife Tracey and their sons Bradley and Tim.

The Willow Foundation is a national charity that was set up by Arsenal legend Bob Wilson and his wife, Megs.

It funds and organises special days out for seriously-ill young adults, aged 16 to 40 years old, throughout the UK.

To date it has funded more than 2,300 special days out.

Throughout the weekend, the family stayed in a villa among the wildlife at the complex and took part in a range of activities.

From walking and swimming to a horse and cart ride around the woods, the whole family had plenty to keep them amused.

Tony said they had all had a wonderful time away. "We have so many memories of our special weekend together as a family," he said.

"I really want to thank the Willow Foundation for organising the weekend. We had a great time and it was good to get away."

The charity was formed by Bob and Megs after the death of their daughter, Anna, at the age of 31.

She had spent the last five years of her life living with cancer, and the anticipation of special days helped to alleviate her symptoms.

The aim of the Foundation is to offer much need respite to seriously ill young adults, aged between 16 and 40-years-old, all over the country.

Bob said he was glad the family had enjoyed their weekend.

"Tony has described exactly what a special day should be about - a chance to escape the pressures of the daily routine, share quality time with family and create special memories.

"We're so delighted to have been able to make this possible for Tony and his family."
