A TEENAGER who was given an Asbo for repeatedly driving mini-motos up and down his street has now been given a driving ban.

Shane Maslen, 19, was caught riding a motorbike without a licence or insurance.

Maslen, of Willows Avenue, Pinehurst, admitted riding the 125cc Aprilia motorbike in Thamesdown Drive on August 12.

Magistrates yesterday handed Maslen a month-long driving ban and £200 fine after he pleaded guilty to driving without a licence or insurance.

Swindon Magistrates' Court heard that he drove the bike to move it out of the road after an accident.

Amanda Sawetz, prosecuting, said: "The defendant was travelling in the back of a friend's Citroen Saxo. There was a youth riding a motorcycle, coming in and out in front of the car.

"There was a collision and the youth came off. Mr Maslen picked the bike up and moved it.

"In interview he said he wasn't thinking properly and moved it. He said he took it round the turning and dumped it but couldn't remember where."

Gordon Hotson, defending Maslen, said: "The reason he moved the bike was because he was asked to do so by the bike's owner, who was hurt.

"It was not very far, just from the accident to a safe place, and it was a friend who was riding it."

Chairwoman of the bench Mallathy Sitaram told Maslen he would be fined £200 and be disqualified from driving for a month for driving without insurance.

Although he was not given any extra penalty for driving other than in accordance with his licence, Mrs Sitaram said his provisional driving licence would be endorsed.

Maslen, who had forgotten to bring his driving licence to the court, was ordered to return within seven days to have his convictions added.

The teenager was given a two-year Asbo last August, banning him from abusing residents, riding or driving repeatedly up and down the street or playing ball games in Pinehurst.

In July he was given a curfew order, 150 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £60 after admitting breaching the order seven times by riding a mini-moto repeatedly up and down his street and abusing his neighbours.

He was given the Asbo after a court heard how he upset elderly Willows Avenue residents by harassing and yelling abuse at them. He was also banned from playing football after annoying neighbours with his repeated nuisance behaviour.
