ORGANISERS have called this year’s Sausage and Ale Trail the busiest yet.

Hundreds thronged Wood Street for the annual food festival, with stalls selling bangers and beer.

Alex Pollock of the Old Town Business Association, which hosted the event, said it had gone off without a hitch.

He added: “Plenty of positive feedback has been coming in already, so we’re really pleased with the way the day turned out.

“Hopefully those who participated are just as happy with the outcome.

“A huge thank you must go to the voluntary team, events sponsors, local businesses, and the masses of Swindon residents who came out to support us.”

Jamie Stapleton, co-owner of Devizes Road pub The Tuppenny, said: “It’s the first time the Sausage and Ale Trail has had licensed vendors selling drinks on the street. We loved being part of it. We had so much positive feedback from customers who might never have had a hoppy pale ale or wheat beer before.

“Everyone had a really great day and it really did show off how the fabulous range of independent businesses in Old Town that offer something that bit more special than your ordinary supermarket fayre.

“Every trader I spoke to after the event said they’d sold out of pretty much everything. We certainly did. I had to go back to The Tuppenny twice just to get more barrels.”

The next event organised by the Old Town Business Association will be their Christmas lights switch-on. It will take place on Sunday, November 25.
