DON''T be put off getting a mortgage because of uncertainty over Brexit, that's the advice of a veteran from the Swindon branch of the Mortgage Advice Bureau.

Jeremy Morcumb, who has worked in the mortgage business for over thirty years, provides a one-stop shop for people looking to get on the housing ladder but either don't know where to go first or have been refused a loan.

"I consider myself an educator," said Jeremy, who tries to dispel many of misconceptions and uncertainties in people's minds when looking to buy.

"There is a natural fear amongst people that think they can't get a mortgage. Whether that's not earning enough money, not having a large enough deposit, or being refused a loan for having a bad credit rating."

One of the tips Jeremy frequently gives to people who have had a mortgage declined is to check their Experian credit file.

“Check the information to see if it represents you, your credit cards and address history and if you’re on the electoral role.

"If someone has moved addresses they can’t be found very easily so their credit score won’t be very high and could be the difference between a yes and a no.”

While Brexit might a concern for large businesses, those looking to get a loan shouldn't have the same concerns.

“Anything that we’re not sure about like Brexit causes concern. We don’t like change particularly as a nation or town," he said.

"There will always been some form of concern in the marketplace that will make people wait. But I think we will see a steady market place as we saw last year.

"A lot of young people see it as an opportunity for the country, and actually are we going to have a mini-boom in house prices once Brexit is sorted out and its all a bit clearer”

Swindon topped the list as the most affordable place to rent in the country, according to a survey by the job website Adzuna.
