AN ARKELL'S pub has been named one of Britain's best.

The Good Pub Guide has chosen the Masons Arms in Meysey Hampton, near Fairford, as their New Pub of the Year 2019.

It follows a £300,000 refurbishment programme that has seen a new kitchen installed and renovated dining room and bar.

New landlord Paul Fallows said: "The team and I have worked hard to bring a new lease of life back into this village pub, combining the traditions of a Cotswolds village local alongside a fresh contemporary feel for dining, drinking and sleeping.

"To win such a prestigious award is just brilliant and I speak on behalf of all my team when I say we’re unbelievably excited with this news.”

Stratton-based brewery firm Arkell's says the pub has become a new hub for the village after its renovation, offering a place to meet for coffee in the morning and a fireside pint in the evening.

George Arkell, managing director of Arkell's Brewery, said he was thrilled by the Good Pub Guide award: “Paul and his team have done a fantastic job in making the pub a key part of the community and we’re proud to support him as it continues to flourish. This award really does show that investing time and energy into revitalising a country pub can bring great success."

The Masons Arms is a dog-friendly pub. It has eight bedrooms, offering bed and breakfast from £70 a night.
