A WELSH pair have been given extra jail time after attacking officers at HMP Erlestoke last year.

They left one prison officer with a broken jaw.

Daniel Nicholas, 26, of Aberdare, was jailed for a year by a Salisbury judge after admitting affray. Co-defendant Simon Williams, 26, pleaded guilty to affray, GBH with intent and two counts of aggravated bodily harm. The Aberbargoed man was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment.

Salisbury Crown Court heard Williams smashed up a serving trolley in August last year, handing the broken trolley legs to fellow inmates. Prison officers suffered cuts, bites and one was left with a broken jaw.

Det Con Toni Nugent of Wiltshire Police said: Detective Constable Toni Nugent said: “This was a prolonged attack on staff at Erlestoke, led by Williams who dismantled a serving trolley to help inmates protect themselves as well as cause further injury to staff. Some of the injuries sustained were serious and required hospital treatment."

“This behaviour is completely unacceptable and I am pleased that these sentences will be added on to the current sentences they are both serving.”
