A SCAMMER pretending to sell laptops in the town centre is wanted by police.

A man in his 30s was approached in the Parade in the town centre on August 29 and offered a laptop.

After being shown a computer in a laptop bag, the victim went to a cashpoint to withdraw money.

When he returned and handed the money over, he received the laptop bag - but this time, there was no computer inside it.

Police are appealing for information and have released a photo of a man they would like to speak to in relation to their investigation.

The suspect is described as a white man, in his 40s, wearing a hat, and he had two teenage men with him.

They were all travelling in a silver Vauxhall Vectra.

PC Keith MacDonald, from CPT Support in Swindon, said: “Our enquiries have revealed that this vehicle was being driven on cloned number plates.

"We believe the offenders have travelled in from outside our force area.

“We have a very clear photograph of one of those in the car and we are hoping someone will recognise him and contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC MacDonald on 101, quoting crime reference number 54180081479, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
