FRONT windows of homes around Savernake Street could be filled with art as part of a walking trail project.

Eastcott Community Organisation, which runs Savernake Street Social Hall, has been given £6,000 by the Big Lottery Fund.

It means the community group will be able to run Window Wanderland, an initiative that started in Bristol but has since spread around the country.

Lucy Reeves-Khan, who first came up with the evening wanderland trail concept, said: "Anyone can make a window display, leave the lights on, and go out onto the streets to see the other displays people have created. It’s a fun, child-friendly, community event, and a fantastic way for us to get together as a community.’’

Caroline Davies-Khan, chairman of Eastcott Community Organisation, said: "It seems like a perfect way to do something different: a walking trail around our neighbourhood.

"What we love about the idea is the opportunity to get out and about and meet our neighbours, and that everyone can join in by creating a display or enjoying what our community has created.

"We are very grateful to the Big Lottery Fund for giving us this opportunity.’’

The project is expected to start next year and will include art workshops for those who want some ideas and inspiration for how to decorate their front windows.
