FUNDRAISER Shannon Pocock is getting ready to take on the Great South Run for a charity close to his heart.

He is running the 10-mile event as part of his employer Nationwide Crash Repair Centre's charity week to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The week encourages employees and teams at the company to take part in helping out the chosen charity partner.

Shannon, a talent acquisition specialist at the Swindon centre, said: “I wanted to be a part of doing something that will help people and make a difference.

“It’s great that the centre allows staff to do this and help out charities.

"This charity helps so many people and I have had experiences with this illness through my family, friends and colleagues.

"It’s not nice to see anyone go through it.

“The more money we raise the more it can help a charity close to everyone’s hearts.”

Shannon, of Haydon Wick, admits he hasn’t trained as much as he would have liked to but is relying on his sporty background to aid him on the run.

The 26-year-old plays football and previously completed Swindon’s Half Marathon.

Darren Neagle, communications and engagement business partner at the company, said: “You can see the excitement between colleagues and shops around the country as they compete to be the team who are the top fundraisers.

“It’s a massive morale boost and engagement and participation is second to none when it comes to supporting a good cause.

"It’s overwhelming how much effort people put in to this.

"Shannon is a great character and I know full heartedly that he will give his all to the cause.”

The body-shop company is one of the largest in the UK and has 120 shops across the country all taking part in the fundraiser. Collectively they have already raised half of their targeted total of £80,000.

This has seen other sites take part in a head shave, 100-mile cycle and other physical activities for charity.

Each team in the business is set a challenge to raise £1,000.
