THE resurfacing and relining of a busy Swindon roundabout is set to happen in just over a week’s time, two months later than planned.

Coate roundabout was due to be improved in August, but contractual issues meant the work was put on hold.

The new surface will be laid overnight from October 15 and is expected to take eight weekday nights to complete. Work will be carried out between 8pm and 6am, when the route will be closed with no access to Coate Water Country Park.

Signposted diversion routes will be in place and emergency vehicles will still be able to access the Great Western Hospital at all times, although other vehicles will have to follow the diversion routes to access the hospital. Arrangements will also be made to maintain access to businesses next to the roundabout.

Maureen Penny, Swindon Borough Council’s cabinet member for highways and the environment, said: “Unfortunately, the road lining and carriageway is badly worn and needs to be replaced so we are keen to get the work done now before it deteriorates further over the winter."

She apologised for the inconvenience to drivers.
