Homebase thief

COURT: A man who stole a gazebo and a pressure washer has been jailed for two weeks by Swindon magistrates because of his previous criminal record.

Shane Watson, 36, of Burnham Road in Park North, pleaded guilty to stealing the gazebo from Homebase on July 1 and returning to the shop two days later to take a £99 pressure washer.

He must pay £99 in compensation for stealing the washer, but nothing for the gazebo as it was not lost or damaged.

Watson must also pay £16 to victim services.

Attack on police

COURT: Jason Merry has been fined £300 for assaulting a police officer.

The 31-year-old of Rodbourne Road in Swindon pleaded guilty to attacking the constable on September 9.

He was told by Swindon magistrates must also pay £50 in compensation plus £85 in costs and £30 to victim services.

Woman assaulted

COURT: A 28-year-old man from Royal Wootton Bassett has been ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work after pleading guilty to assault and sending an offensive message.

Daniel Watts, 28, of Cloatley Crescent, beat a woman in his hometown and sent the indecent message on September 16.

A community order with the unpaid work requirement, plus a rehabilitation activity requirement was made when he appeared before Swindon magistrates.

Watts must also pay £85 each in costs and to victim services.

Window smashed

COURT: Paul Hillier, 49, of Radnor Street in Swindon must pay £180 in compensation for property damage.

Hillier appeared in the dock at Swindon magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to destroying a window belonging to the Derventio Housing Trust in Swindon on September 12.
