A TOWN centre nightclub has announced it is to close.

Medina's opened in 2014 in Theatre Square, behind the Wyvern Theatre.

In a statement posted on the club's Facebook page yesterday, the owners wrote: "Sorry to say today it’s been decided to close Medina.

"We have really enjoyed being part of the Swindon nightlife for last few years but due to increasing overheads, licensing conditions and poor location and the massive impact running Medina takes out of our private life’s we don’t feel the venue could be sustainable.

"We would like to say massive thanks to all our staff and customers for your support over the years you have been amazing."

On social media, some clubbers mourned Medina's loss. Roxanne Bradford said: "Yet another nightclub gone. Bring Swindon nightlife back." Others were less complimentary about the club, which has occasionally found its name mentioned in the Swindon courts.

Medina was opened four years ago by Foxies owner David Broome.

Manager Sam Fox said at the time: “This is a really exciting opportunity as the town centre isn’t great for going out at the minute. Plus, when you speak to people who go out in Swindon, they either say they go out to the town centre or Old Town but never switch over, but we hope to offer something which will please both crowds.

“We are next door to Foxies but this is a totally different venture from it.”
