A SWINDON pet shop celebrating 15 years of canine care has unveiled plans to expand.

Family-run business Petshed Limited was established in 2003 by managing director Philip Wells, who decided to set up his own company after working for one of the big wholesalers in the pet industry for over 32 years.

Based in Grange Craft Village, plans for a fourth site are now in place, which the pet shop is hoping will be open at the start of next year.

The expansion will allow it to provide a seven-days-a-week service with a team of qualified groomers, and possibly their own training academy later down the line.

Sarah Wells, business manager, said: “We are delighted to be a part of this town for as long as we have been.

“The future looks bright and we are really excited for what’s to come.

“In the beginning, there were just two employees, and now we have 16 members of staff. We’re still very much a family business though.

“We want to make sure that we are always thinking ahead and planning how we can improve on what we have established so far.”

Over the years they have received awards for the products they have produced, with some of their achievements including being voted Swindon’s Favourite PetShop in 2013 and earning the Pet Industry Federation’s Award for Best Independent Retailer in the UK.

It recently launched its own brand of dog food called Borders and is currently working on two puppy products and a range of cat foods.

Customers will find that when they next visit the site, the ‘seasonal’ aisle of the store has been turned into a huge display of pet Christmas toys, treats and clothing.
