A SWINDON woman was shocked when she discovered that 48 of her relatives had died during the First World War.
Kerryann Davies delved deep into the history of her biological and adopted families.
She said: “I was overwhelmed and speechless when I found out how many had been killed and I’m still finding more names.
“What they sacrificed for our country amazes me and I want to learn all their stories, write them down and pass them on to my children.”
This wasn’t the only surprise in store for Kerryann during her research.
“I was also shocked when I found out my grandfather fought for the Germans in World War Two. He was just doing his job, like the soldiers on the British side, and he didn’t have much of a choice.
“He was captured as a prisoner of war and taken here, then stayed here after the conflict ended.
“I never got to meet him, which is a shame, I would have loved to talk to him.”
Her husband is in the army reserves and will be taking part in Swindon remembrance events over this weekend.
