A PERCUSSION musician will visit a school in Swindon to give a workshop on playing spoons.
Jo May, originally from Swindon, will visit Westlea Primary School on January 17 to give a masterclass on playing spoons.
Jo, who trained at the Royal College of Music, is an experienced teacher who travels the country teaching traditional folk-music percussion as well as African drumming.
The workshop has been organised and funded by the local charity the Friends of Swindon Young Musicians which aims to increase opportunities for children to learn musical instruments and has put performances on at the Stratton Festival.
It will also be re-launching as a charity on the same day.
Sarah Sumner, deputy head at the school and charity trustee, said: "It's about looking at greater musical opportunities which are slightly different, and giving children and young people which wouldn't normally get involved the chance."
The workshops will start at an assembly at 9am and run throughout the day.
