THE parents of a young man killed in a car crash on a 50mph road near Lyneham say the speed limit there should be lowered to prevent future accidents.

Michael and Wendy Ainsworth’s son William was in a car when the driver lost control and crashed while travelling round the bend at the bottom of Snow Hill near Goatacre within the speed limit.

Michael said: “We’ve driven up and down that hill so many times over the last 28 years and I think we have to do something about that speed limit.”

Wendy said: “We left flowers on the tree the car hit and while we were doing that, other vehicles came screaming down the hill. After Goatacre it changes from 40 to 50 but it should stay at 40.

“I would hate for other mothers to experience the pain of this loss that I’m going through. Thank you to all my friends and family for their support, they’ve helped us get through the devastation of losing William.”

In his memory, Michael and Wendy hope to have a nameplate for William installed on a bench in Lyneham, where he spent much of his life and loved to call home.
