The councillor with responsibility for how Swindon Borough Council runs itself, and handles requests and contacts from the town's residents, will be in the hot-seat next week.

Coun Keith Williams, the authority's cabinet member for corporate and customer services faces the questions and answer session from councillors on the scrutiny committee. One of the issues Coun Williams will address is the attempt to modernise the way it handles customer queries and requests.

The report to the committee says: "The One Stop Shop and other contact points received 66,000 visitors compared to 80,000 in 2017, and the customer contact centre received 360,000 calls compared to 376,000 in 2017.

"This is in the context of a reduction in headcount."

Coun Williams will tell councillors that the issue of people waiting too long to have their calls answered, and of too many giving up before their call is answered, while unsatisfactory, is improving.

The report says: "We have seen significant improvements in recent months, this is something we will work on in 2019."

The meeting starts at 6pm on Monday.
