SOUTH Swindon MP Robert Buckland said he hoped “sense would prevail” after the latest blow to the government’s Brexit deal.
On Tuesday night, 20 Conservative MPs broke ranks and voted against their government to pass an amendment to the Finance Bill, limiting ministers’ ability to introduce tax changes in the event no Brexit deal could be agreed.
Among the rebels were senior Tories, including former ministers Michael Fallon, Justine Greening and Ken Clarke.
Theresa May faces a crunch Parliamentary vote on her Brexit deal next week.
South Swindon MP Robert Buckland, who as Solicitor General is helping steer the Brexit legislation through the House of Commons, said: “I hope that sense will prevail, she can win the vote and that immediately we can move on to introduce the Withdrawal Agreement Bill that I shall be helping to take through Parliament.”
