THE Stratton branch of the Royal British Legion was targeted by burglars.

A witness who heard a commotion at the St Philips Road shop in the early hours of Monday morning posted an appeal for information on social media.

She said: “One of the windows was broken at around 1am. They tried breaking into the till but thankfully didn’t get into it and probably made off when the alarm went off.

“Although they didn’t get away with anything, they have caused a lot of sadness that this lovely little club could be broken into, not to mention the damage they have left behind for the mainly-retired folk at the club to sort out.

“If you saw, heard or know of anything please contact the police so the thieving little scumbags can be caught. The noise it made was horrific. I heard it at around 1am but looked out and couldn’t see anything.”

She said that the alarm went off at 2.50am.
