ROYAL Wootton Bassett Sports and Social Club is hoping to score a six with councillors on the area board on Wednesday when its bid for a grant of almost £2,500 to help with the cost of a noise reduction system is considered.

In an application to the board, grants co-ordinator for the cricket club Warwick Mattick explained: “Our clubhouse has a problem with noise levels due to the high ceiling which causes an echo when the clubhouse is busy.

“If is quite off-putting and discourages members from using the facility as you can’t always hear the conversation. We have consulted with an acoustic specialist who has suggested we install suspended clouds made from sheep wool which will absorb the background noise.”

The total cost of the project is just under £5,000.

In the bid the club says most of its income is from members using the clubhouse and bar to socialise after training and matches along with offering it for hire for weddings and other events.

The application will be discussed along with others at the next Royal Wootton Bassett and Cricklade area board meeting at the village hall in Purton. The session is public and starts at 6pm with a chance to network.
