TWO female officers accused a former Wiltshire Police chief of inappropriate behaviour, it has been reported.
Mike Veale, who left the county force to become chief constable of Cleveland Police last year, resigned from his position on Monday.
The Daily Telegraph reported that allegations about Mr Veale’s behaviour made by two female officers were passed to Cleveland’s police and crime commissioner Barry Coppinger before Christmas. The accusations were then referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
At a press conference, Mr Coppinger did not reveal the exact nature of the allegations, which relate to Mr Veale’s time at Cleveland rather than Wiltshire.
In September, the IOPC found he had lied about how his mobile phone had been smashed when he was Wiltshire’s chief constable. However, the watchdog cleared him of deliberately destroying the phone to conceal information.
