Green spaces should be protected from development say two motions to be debated by councillors tonight.
One motion, put forward by councillors Jane Milner-Barry and Chris Watts suggests that the borough council transfers three plots of land to a parish council to ensure they are not built on for a century.
The other requests that open spaces in Toothill are removed from the council's strategic land availability assessment.
Couns Milner Barry and Watts say that three green spaces, one in Lakeside, one north of Coate Roundabout, and one east of Marlborough Road should be leased to South Swindon Parish Council for 99 years so that it can be kept as open space for the use of local people.
Coun Watts said: "It's important for the health and wellbeing of the people of Swindon to protect green open spaces.
"They are the lungs of Swindon if you like - and the parish council have made a commitment to protecting them."
Another motion, put forward by Coun Steph Exell asks the council to agree to ensure that all small patches of land in Toothill are not used by the council's own housing development company for building.
The meeting starts at 7pm in the council chamber at the civic offices in Euclid Street.
There will also be motions on climate change, domestic violence and public questions.
