HAYDON Wick councillors want help unravelling the history of the area’s very own stone henge - rediscovered thanks in part to Pokemon Go players.
Work by the parish council’s parks team uncovered the installation off Purton Road, made up of more than 30 small boulders.
Unlike its rather more famous Wiltshire cousin, the Swindon stone circle is believed to date back two decades - rather than Stonehenge’s 5,000 years.
Georgina Morgan-Denn, parish clerk, said work to clear the brambles around the stones had been commissioned after the area became a hotspot for those playing video game Pokemon Go, which sees players visit different locations in an attempt to bag creatures in the mobile phone app.
Cutting back the brambles revealed the stones in all their glory. Some have fossils embedded in the rock.
Now, the council wants locals’ help in discovering the history of the circle: “If anyone has any information about how they came to be there we would be pleased to hear from you.” Email tidyup@haydonwick.gov.uk or call the parish office on 01793 722446.
