PLANS to build the 'science park' at Inlands Farm has proved a controversial move since they were first made public last year.

The proposed 40 hectre site sits between the A419 next to the Commonhead Roundabout and is looked down on by Wanborough.

Villagers are opposing the site on the grounds that it sits within the setting of AONB land, the North Wessex Downs, the size of the development - which they say is as big as the village itself - and the increase in traffic as a result of the pharmaceutical company's operations.

Wasdell, the pharmaceutical packaging manufacturer, wants to initially build a another warehouse in addition to its HQ in Blagrove and says the second phase of development could attract high-paid jobs in research and development to the area.

The proposal includes a 33,000 sq.m and 14.5 m 47.5 ft. high warehouse and distribution facility.

Later phases for the science park element will have to be approved later, causing anxiety amongst villagers who feel it will remain a warehousing facility which will only open it up to more industrial buildings.

Wasdell say they currently employ around 650 people in Swindon at the Blagrove warehouse but says it is looking to double the number of employees by 2021 if the plans go head.

A pressure group to resist its plans, the South Swindon Protection Group, co-ordinated the stunt on Sunday to show villagers and those in Swindon the size of the development on the farm.

Swindon Borough Council will next meet to discuss the application. If refused the company may modify the plans or appeal the decision.

If they feel it's refused unreasonably they can appeal to the Secretary of State.
