A DRIVER seriously injured when a police chase ended in his car smashing into the back of a lorry remains in a stable condition, a police watchdog said.
The 30-year-old man was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, following the accident in the early hours of Monday morning. He received serious injuries when the VW Golf he was driving crashed into the back of an HGV.
Investigators from the Independent Office for Police Conduct visited the scene earlier this week.
A spokeswoman for for the watchdog said they had launched a probe as the car had been involved in a police chase. "Following notification from Wiltshire Police we sent investigators to the scene and to the police post incident procedures," she added.
The road was closed northbound between Cricklade and South Cerney for more than 12 hours.
