A TWO-day mental health training course will be held for employers this week.

Fig Offices, on Newbridge close next to Zurich, is running the two-day course on mental health first aid on Thursday and Friday.

The course will teach individuals and employers how to spot the signs of poor mental health in someone and how to respond sensitively and appropriately to someone in a crisis.

Tackling mental health in the workplace by making employees more aware of mental health resilience has been shown to give a boost to businesses.

Depression, anxiety and stress is cited as one of the biggest causes of sickness and staff absence, totalling up to 91 million lost work days every year.

Managers at Fig Offices have been pro-active in promoting mental health in the workplace and currently host a fortnightly men's mental health awareness group with local campaigner and founder of Mind Canyon Steve Carr.

The internationally recognised course, which will give participants an MHFA qualification, will start from 9am until 5pm and costs £180-£200 for tickets.
