For a full two years there have been no deaths in Swindon borough from fires, councillors will be told.

Members of the Wiltshire Fire Authority's Swindon performance and scrutiny committee will meet next Wednesday for an update on how the brigade is doing in the town.

One of the reports will show that there have been no deaths in accidental house fires, and no deaths from fires at all in Swindon between January 2017 and December 2018.

The trend for fire-related injuries saw a slight rise from 2017 to 2018 - there were a total of 21 injuries across the two years - with nine in 2017 and 12 last year.

The highest number came in April 2017, with four, with two in Aust, and one apiece in September, November and December.

In 2018 there were three fire-related injuries in January , with two each in February and March, and Amy, with one in April, June and October.

There appears to be a distinct pattern to the incidences of accidental house fires across the two years, with a spike in such fires in winter and then again in the middle of summer.

There were 13 unintended houses fires in January 2017, with 16 in May and 15 in June.

In 2018 there were 15 in January and 14 the month after, then 12 in June, 10 in October and 14 in December - these were the only months last year where fire numbers were above single figures.
