The leader of Swindon Borough Council David Renard says there is good news for him and other Robins supporters.

He welcomed news that talks between the government, the rail industry and football authorities on how to reach a fair deal for fans when matches are rescheduled have been constructive.

It's been agreed passengers should not have to pay more for their train tickets in the event a match is rescheduled for TV.

Coun Renard said: “It is fantastic news that the Government is looking at how to make train travel easier and safer for football fans.

"Matches can often be rescheduled at very late notice, so anything that can be done to make ticketing more flexible for fans is hugely welcome. A lot of work goes in to making our football teams successful and the fans play a massive part in that so anything that makes the experience less stressful and more enjoyable is a bonus.”

“I have supported Swindon Town for many years and attended more games than I can remember.

"For all of us, the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in our team is the enduring memory we should have, not the train journey home”

“I look forward to progress on this issue and will continue to press for a better rail service for Swindon.”
