THE Swindon councillor in charge of the town centre has given his views on the borough’s work-in-progress plan to reduce pollution on Kingshill Road.
Residents have often complained about the air quality near the top of the hill and it is known as Swindon’s most-polluted road.
Cllr Dale Heenan, Cabinet member for the town centre, said: “This is an opportunity to improve the air we breathe and to make the town a healthier place for the future. There are many passionate green activists, and senior Labour councillors, who want to see a Swindon Congestion Charge introduced. Bath is having a big debate about this issue, but I am not convinced. We have to be very careful that whatever is agreed in the Air Quality Action Plan does not create more problems in different roads, or create a barrier to people wanting to shop and visit Old Town and the town centre."
