A DAREDEVIL YouTuber sneaked past security and police to climb to the very top of the County Ground’s 150ft floodlights.

Keith Bull, aka KB Climbing, filmed himself scaling the Stratton Bank structure in broad daylight and posed for the camera with an unparalleled view of the town behind him.

Mr Bull briefly approached a police car in the ground’s car park and filmed the officer sitting inside it, who did not appear to notice him, before entering the ground itself. He climbed over the ground’s red gate, squeezed under barbed wire and clambered down onto the floor, then hopped over a white metal fence and began the long ladder-climb to the floodlights’ top platform.

Mr Bull told the Adver: “It felt amazing, it was quite windy but the views outweighed any unsettling feelings. If it wasn’t for low-light filming I would have preferred to have done it at sunset.

“This has been on my list for a long time now and I climbed it for the same reason I climb anything to be honest - for the perspective shift and a different view that not many people get to see.

“I have been fascinated with adrenaline sports like skateboarding and climbing structures since I was a kid, it developed from there I guess.

“These floodlights are a big part of the town’s history that is rapidly disappearing. I wasn’t worried about falling or injuring myself, I’ve accepted that it could be a reality but don’t dwell on it, life is too short. There was only one police car in the car park there and I think he was busy on a laptop. There seemed to be a lack of security.

“As for any critics, I think everyone is entitled to an opinion. I do it more for people who have always thought of what it may look like from a particular viewpoint.”

A Swindon Town Football Club spokesman said: “The club is aware of the video that shows a YouTuber climbing the County Ground floodlights. An internal investigation is taking place and the club will not make any further comment while that investigation is ongoing.”

David Walker, leisure safety manager at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, said: “An appetite for adventure is fine, commendable even, but done in the right context. The bottom line is that if things go wrong, it does not only impact on the individual involved but also their family, the emergency services and staff who work at the site.”

Mr Bull described the aim of his YouTube channel as “exploring my reality free from the confines of society” and insisted that no laws have been broken in his video. He also urged viewers not to attempt to reconstruct his feat.

He added: “I am a seasoned climber and have taken necessary precautions to ensure the safety and preservation of myself and the equipment. I take no liability for others’ actions.”

In 1953, Swindon Town became the first League club to add floodlights to its ground, at a cost of £350, and they were first used during a League game in 1956. Town narrowly missed out on the claim to fame of becoming the first club to play a League fixture with artificial lighting - Portsmouth beat them to it just a week earlier.

A Wiltshire Police spokeswoman said there was nothing on their incident logs about the climber and did not wish to comment further.

A sign for Stanley Security video surveillance can be seen in the video. The company did not wish to issue a full comment on the situation but said they were looking into it.

Swindon has become a popular place for urban explorers - last year another YouTuber uploaded a video of a climb up the town’s iconic David Murray John Tower.
