MORE 40 dogs and their owners gathered in Lydiard Park on Saturday in memory of mauled border terrier Millie.

The memory walk was organised by Millie’s owner, Trudi Wagner following the attack by two Akita-type dogs last month.

It raised over £400 for local charity SN Dogs, which looks to shelter and rehome unwanted dogs.

Trudi said it had been an emotional day: “Today has been really mixed but I wanted it to be a celebration for Millie and everyone to be happy, and that’s what it feels like.

“It’s been amazing, I don’t think I expected so many people and dogs to turn up.

“It’s great that we’ve raised so much money and it’s nice that something positive is coming out of such a terrible situation. Which for me personally, was exactly what I had hoped for.

Jane Francis, a trustee of SN Dogs said: “I think Trudi raising money is a lovely idea in memory of Millie.

“I think it is a really kind gesture, the amount of money that she has raised will actually go a long way to rehoming another dog and that’s important. There are so many dogs now in rescue centres that need good homes and we may be a small local charity but we rehomed 150 dogs last year, we’re already on target to exceed that this year.”

She added: “Millie’s story is tragic and very, very sad but it’s nice that something positive can come out of it.

“Trudi has raised about £400 today for us and that will go to help finding two dogs new foster homes, it really goes to show that every little helps.” For more, visit: justgiving.com/crowdfunding/milliememorywalk.
