A 999 call handler who saved the life of a police inspector has claimed a national award.
South Western Ambulance Service’s Olivia Molyneux won the Patients’ Choice accolade at the 2019 Unsung Hero Awards.
Last summer, the call handler calmly reassured Met Police inspector Dave George when he dialled 999 after experiencing crushing chest pains when walking in Cornwall. He nominated Olivia for the award.
“I was filled with happiness when I heard I had won the Patients’ Choice Award,” Olivia said.
“Insp George went above and beyond to show his gratitude to me, and I cannot thank him enough.”
Deputy director of operations at SWAST Paul Greatorex said the award was a “true testimony to Olivia’s professionalism”.
The Unsung Hero Awards recognise non-clinical NHS staff.
