THE Met office has issued a yellow weather warning covering Swindon as strong winds are set to hit most of England and Wales.

The warning said to expect very strong winds, with some travel disruption and possible dangerous conditions from tonight around 9pm until 3pm tomorrow.

The warning said: “A spell of strong northwesterly winds is expected to develop across southwest Scotland late on Tuesday evening then extend across much of England and Wales through Wednesday.

“Gusts of up to 50-55 mph are likely inland and 65 mph along western coasts. Winds will gradually ease during the afternoon.”

It also advises commuters to plan ahead because some bus and train services could be affected, with some journeys taking longer.

Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges are also likely.

There could also be some short term loss of power and other services.

The warning follows in the wake of Storm Freya which hit the country earlier this month bringing winds of up to 80mph.
