THREE hardy pals embarked on a marathon running tour of the coastal path to help save a close friend’s life.

Friends Adam Little, Nathan Haisley, and Lee Parke clocked up 150km over three consecutive days from Camber to Whitstable in Kent to raise almost £10,000 for friend Sean O’Brien.

The 35-year-old was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in his bowel and liver in May 2016, and was told he had around six months left to live.

But against the odds he beat the bowel cancer after more than 50 gruelling sessions of chemotherapy but needs £12,000 to pay for treatment with the drug Avastin – which isn’t available on the NHS – to prevent the liver cancer spreading.

On the back of the challenging weekend Adam, from Swindon. told the Adver: “He’s buzzing, he couldn’t believe that we did it for him, he’s so grateful, its unbelievable.

“He was going in today to have another treatment and he was really upbeat, which is really good.

“It just makes it all worthwhile, all the aches and pains that we got from the run, it means it was done for a great reason.

“It was inspiring to see a lad that’s staying so positive, despite his diagnosis. We had to do it for him.”

The tour saw people coming out of their houses to cheer the team along the way and, despite undergoing a round of chemotherapy just days before, Sean also joined them, cycling the final seven miles of the route along the Kent coastline.

“Everytime we hit a low point there was someone there to give us a little boost,” added Adam.

“It was brilliant seeing Sean, we gave him a cuddle, and he looked so happy to see us, he said he felt like was on top of the world.”

Thanks to the donations that poured in doctors can start treatment, at a cost of £1,500 per session, giving Sean, from Acton, the best chance of fighting off the disease.

“The doctors keep saying that he can do it, they haven’t told him to give up, and neither will we,” added Adam.

“The challenge is over, but the fight isn’t, so please keep sharing Sean’s story,” he said.

The three-man team next have a mountain climbing challenge in their sights, completing the highest three peaks in Yorkshire, in the UK and in Wales, within 72 hours. “We’ve got to do something quite big, because if we did something half decent we wouldn’t raise that much money would we,” he added.
