A BREAST cancer awareness day will be held at Western Community Centre this Saturday.

Together with two charities CoppaFeel and Avon Breast Cancer Awareness the community group is raising awareness in memory of the centre’s former chairman, Sandra Trott, who died from breast cancer last year after being at the helm for 10 years.

“As a team we want more people to be aware of what to look for, and how to find the symptoms,” said organiser Glinn Hambridge.

“It’s a very sad day really for everyone.

“We want her legacy to enable people to come together and talk about it and hopefully check their breasts to find it earlier on.
“There’s been great support so far and hopefully we can also raise as much money as we can on the day.”

The day will have a raffle to raise money for CoppaFeel and will feature talks from representatives from the two charities, as well as stalls selling make-up and skin care products, and a community bingo.

The two charities have been working together to help women check their breasts correctly.

Last year they launched the first digital platform CoppaCollege to educate women on spotting the signs.

As one of the college’s educators Becky Watts, known as a Boobette, will be giving a talk from 1.15pm - 2pm on sharing her experience from having breast cancer as a woman under the age of 35.

The event, on March 16, at the community centre on Somerset Road in Rodbourne Cheney, is free to attend and starts at noon and finishes at 4pm when the raffle will be drawn, with all money going towards CoppaFeel.
