STRONG gusts of wind and lashings of heavy rain have hit Swindon in advance of Storm Gareth arriving tonight.
The weather could cause disruption to travel and the Met office has issued a weather warning which comes into effect at 9pm tonight, lasting until 3pm tomorrow.
The meteorological agency also advised commuters to plan ahead because some bus and train services could be affected, with some journeys taking longer.
Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges are also likely. There could also be some short term loss of power and other services.
The warning said to expect very strong winds, with some travel disruption and possible dangerous conditions around England and Wales.
The warning said: “A spell of strong northwesterly winds is expected to develop across southwest Scotland late on Tuesday evening then extend across much of England and Wales through Wednesday.
“Gusts of up to 50-55 mph are likely inland and 65 mph along western coasts. Winds will gradually ease during the afternoon.”
