A DATE has been fixed for the Swindon Bangladeshi Association’s Mela.
The colourful Boishaki Mela celebrates the Bengali new year.
Organisers say the festival is a chance to celebrate cultural traditions, as well as raise some cash for the Swindon charities backed by Coun Junab Ali, the town’s first mayor of British Bangladeshi heritage. The charities include Twigs and the Harbour Project.
Organiser Abdul Amin said: "A goal of the event is to appreciate the presence of the Bengali community in society and appreciate their contributions in terms of culture and arts. It is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the rich and diverse culture, music and arts of our country, Bangladesh.”
Featuring on the line-up will be singers Nish, Smashbengali and Rowshanara Muni. Also on offer will be dance performances, a fashion show, clothing and food stalls and face painting.
The Mela will be held at the GWR Park, Faringdon Road, on Sunday, April 14, 12pm to 7pm. Entry: £2.
