Police have urged quad bike owners to fit trackers and make their vehicles more secure after seeing an increase in thefts around the county.

The number of all-terrain vehicles and quad bikes thefts has increased in Wiltshire in recent times and owners are encouraged to take reasonable precautions.

Police advise people to keep their vehicle in a lockable garage or building and make sure to remove the keys, cover windows and install security lighting and CCTV.

Setting up VHF and GPS tracking devices would also help the police to recover the lost vehicle more quickly.

A Wiltshire police spokesperson said: “Last week one quad bike was stolen and recovered within a few hours due to the tracker fitted.”

In case the vehicle is ever stolen, owners must take a picture of the vehicle as well as record machinery serial numbers.

Anyone with information should call Wiltshire Police on 101.
