Westmead

The owner/operator of a hot and cold food vending trailer, Fikmet Yilmaz, who runs the Yummy Scrummy van from his home in Pinehurst will be allowed to park on the road at the central junction of access roads at the Axis business Centre off west Mead Drive.

That’s despite objections form Swindon Borough Council’s Highways team, who said allowing the van to trade there not only added to congestion on the road, but could make it more dangerous.

The Highways officer’s report to planners at Euclid Street said: “Some of the complaints detail the existing location of the food vending van as a contributory factor to this. I recommend the application be refused for the following reason: The location of the food vending van on carriageway is a contributory factor to congestion on West Mead Drive close to the busy roundabout junction with Mead Way, this is likely to cause increase in highway safety issues, such as collisions.

While North Swindon parish Council made no objection to Mr Yilmak’s application is did support the Highways officer’s comments.

Nevertheless, permission has been granted for the van to trade at the site from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday, and until 1pm on Saturday but not Sundays or Bank Holidays.
