A FARMER has hit out at the ‘disgusting behaviour’ of fly-tippers after finding illegally-dumped waste on her land.

Kay Lacey, whose farm is in Chiseldon, is angry after discovering grey garden slate, chippings, soil and piles of dog poo.

She said: “Last Sunday, my solicitor and I found a large amount of garden waste. People think it’s okay to walk in your field without permission and dump their waste.

“I also found a bucket full of dried dog poo dumped. It is just a disgusting behaviour.

“There is the usual grass cuttings, tree branches as well. It is dreadful how farmland is being abused.

“The public need to be educated. It could be harmful for the environment, affecting humans and animals.

“My farm is my factory. You won’t consider going to Honda and dumping your rubbish there.”

The farmer said clean-up costs for removing waste from her farmland could reach nearly £1,000.

She added: “I arranged for someone to put the rubbish away but the actions of selfish fly-tippers who are too lazy to go to the municipal tip are costing me time and money”

Kay plans to fortify her land by putting up new fences, blackthorn hedges and planting deciduous and coniferous trees around the boundaries.

“I will be hedging and fencing and planting trees in the farmland later this year,”she said.

“If I have good evidence of those doing fly-tipping I will seek to have them prosecuted under the Environmental Protection Act.

“Fly-tipping is not just about dumping mattresses and household waste, it’s a problem which the whole community needs to take responsibility for. Fly-tipping is easy, It is hard to catch the perpetrators and it’s an asocial waste.

“Swindon residents can subscribe to the garden waste collection and disposal service and also use Cheyney Manor waste recycling.”

A Swindon Borough Council spokesman said: “We are taking steps to crackdown on fly-tipping and we urge people to dispose of their rubbish in a responsible manner.

“We respond to all incidents of fly-tipping that are reported to us but if the rubbish is dumped on private land, as it appears to have been in this particular case, then we cannot remove it as we do not have the resources to do this consistently to be fair to all residents.”

“We would always encourage residents to report incidents of fly tipping to us by logging on to: https://bit.ly/2nvzaE3.”
