TWO people had to be freed from their vehicles by the emergency services after being involved in a car crash near the town centre.

Police, fire and ambulance crews raced to Drakes Way at around 1.50pm on Saturday to attend to the accident and divert traffic while the road was cleared.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service first received a call about the crash at 1.58pm and arrived at the scene within minutes.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "Appliances from Swindon and Stratton were mobilised to a report of a road traffic collision on Drakes Way.

"Crews used hydraulic cutting equipment and small gear working alongside the ambulance service to release two casualties."
