A TEAM of parents have completed a 102-mile bike ride in aid of a local school – and raised nearly £15,500.
Funds will now be used to install an all-weather athletics track at Western Primary in Fulflood this summer, creating “significant health benefits for the whole school community”.
The 24 cyclists started at Westminster Abbey in London at around 8am, May 18, and spent six hours and 30 minutes riding back to the school, where they were welcomed by around 120 people.
Co-organiser Nick Joynes, who runs The Natural Travel Collection in Alresford, said: “The ride was absolutely fabulous – it couldn’t have gone better.
“We didn’t have any problems along the way. I think planning everything logistically was a huge help, and the incredible support kept us going. Some families even drove to Ropley and held signs as we went past.
He added: “It was a bit emotional for some of the riders when we got back, because I don’t think anyone expected that many people to be there.”
