Work on the indoor snow centre destined for North Star in Swindon was meant to start about now.

But it has been delayed, according to the developers, Seven Capital because of some difficulty in getting the money together for the massive project.

And the company says that uncertainty caused by Brexit, and the ongoing absence of agreement of when and how the UK with leave the EU, has contributed to that delay.

Funding has been secured, now, the company added and work should start towards the end of the year, with completion some time in 2022.

A spokesman said: "Seven Capital can confirm that despite current uncertainty the project is making good progress. We have recently agreed terms on further financing of the wider project, which, once documented, anticipated for July, will then enable us to complete detailed design for the construction of the development.

"We are now anticipating the last quarter of this year to be on site to begin the construction phase of this exciting project and are working with our partners and Swindon Borough Council on pushing forwards as quickly as possible. "

The spokesman added that it wouldn't attribute the delay solely or even primarily to Brexit, but that uncertainty around the issue has affected many industries in the country, and it can be said to have contributed.

The £270m development at North Star was described by Swindon Borough Council's cabinet member for the town centre as a 'game changer' when permission was given in November last year.

It is the central plank to the council's plans for regenerating the town centre.
