An incident on Thamesdown Drive caused traffic to back up in both directions just before 1.30pm today.
A number of police vehicles were on the scene and the section underneath the steel bridge past Orbital Retail Park has been closed off.
The road is now open again in both directions.
A police spokesperson said: "We were responding to a concern for the welfare of a woman, and that the incident has been dealt with and the woman has been taken to a place of safety."
