FED up Brian Wills says he's sick of a verge being left to grow up to 6ft tall year after year.

The grassy area borders the Swindon Rugby Club pitch and Darwin Close but is overgrown with nettles and is used as a dumping ground.

Nythe resident Brian has lived in the area since the 1960s and has been complaining about it for a number of years.

“I’m fed up complaining about it because nobody seems to be interested,” Brian said.

“It affects everybody here and it looks a mess.

"I’ve seen grass cuttings and all sorts thrown in there.

Swindon Advertiser:

“When we had to put our names down to live here, the man said it was a lovely spot, that there would be loads of tress and a big field and it will all look very nice.”

“But since then, nothing’s been done. The only thing that’s happened is the rugby pitch."

The 83-year-old added: “The borough council says it’s not their land, so whose land is it? I don’t know who to phone anymore.

“They only cut the grass around the houses, not over here. If I wanted to sell my house and the buyers saw that they would say ‘what a mess’ and I wouldn’t sell.”

The Adver contacted Swindon Borough Council, which directed us to Nythe Parish Council.

Parish councillor Bazil Solomon said the verge would be cut back, adding: “It's frustrating for residents to go between parish and borough councils to raise issues like verge trimming or tree pruning.

“The size of the thing affects who does it.

Swindon Advertiser:

"I am championing that the borough council prunes trees that are encroaching onto residents’ gardens.

“I have raised this with borough council and the parish council, but we do need a fairer and overall policy where these are taken care of automatically before we get the complaints.

Swindon Advertiser:

“We live in a lovely green area Swindon and need great gardeners all round.”
