FESTIVAL on the Farm is jumping on the enviro-friendly bandwagon by ditching single-use plastic cups.

The Purton House Organics is replacing them for the three-day event with reusable Happy Cups - some made from stainless steel and others from rigid plastic.

Rowie Meers, owner of the farm and festival organiser, said: “We can’t use glass on the festival field because of safety issues for festival goers and for our animals afterwards.

"But, since David Attenborough highlighted the plight of our oceans we were determined to do our bit to reduce plastic.”

Those drinking at the festival will be charged a pound for their cup and can re-use it through the night if using the rigid plastic cups.

It is believed that although the cups are still made of plastic, if they are used between three and five times it benefits the environment over single-use plastic.

Festival-goers opting for stainless steel Envirocups will pay £5. Fellow organiser Kate Robinson said: “Stainless steel can be recycled forever without losing quality so the Envirocup is a great sustainable option. The metal cups will have our festival logo so will also make a great souvenir.

West Country pop legends The Wurzels are headlining on Saturday and others in the line-up include a Robbie Williams tribute act, The Dirty Smooth and Get Carter.

The Arkensaw Jukebox Collective will give pop hits a bluegrass edge while the essence of Nashville is offered by Billy in the Lowground.

The Skandals and Skabucks bring the sound of ska music, Concord Drive will give the audience some indie rock and there will be a 90's party from Rage Against the Rageime.

An acoustic stage named in memory of local musician John Green, the frontman of Vice Versa who died in June, is being set up and there will be a collection for the National Suicide Prevention Alliance.

His bandmates will perform, along with other singers.

Anyone who wants to take part with a song for John is encouraged to contact Andy Pett on email at riffsbar@gmail.com

Day tickets are still available and children under 13 can go free.

The festival starts on Friday. Visit festivalonthefarm.co.uk for full details and information about camping.
