TODDLERS swapped stories with OAPs, as youngsters from an Old Town playgroup visited Kings Court care home.
Staff at King William Playgroup, based on Savernake Street, said the now regular visits had been inspired by Channel 4 series Old People’s Home for 4-Year-Olds. The hit show sees pre-schoolers taking lessons with pensioners, with often hilarious results.
The Old Town children and residents at Kings Court, on Kent Road, play bingo, sing, do arts and crafts and play catch.
Helen Frijia, of King William Playgroup, said: “To see the smiles on the residents’ faces when we visit is truly heart-warming.”
Many of those being cared for at Kings Court have suffered strokes, have dementia or experience problems with their mobility.
Tanya Merryweather, activities co-ordinator at Kings Court and the one who set up the playgroup visits, said: “Our sessions with the children and residents are just magical to watch. The residents’ faces light up as soon as the children enter the room.”
The sessions will continue in September when the children return from their summer holiday.
