Adults in Swindon are getting slimmer - a little.
Figures in a report to be made to members of the borough council's scrutiny committee on Monday show that a 5.5 per cent reduction in adult obesity over the last three years has brought the adult population in line withy the rest of England.
While obesity rates in children are similar to previous years across a number of age groups, for children in year six at school "there is a small but discernible long term trend in those with obesity or any excess weight.
"Swindon is nearer the poor performing end when compared to authorities in its benchmarking cluster on all weight measures" the report adds.
The council's cabinet member for health, Brian Ford will tell members of the committee that large inequalities in weight are seen between affluent and deprived areas in the borough.
