A WILTSHIRE MP has hit out at those critical of plans to prorogue the Houses of Parliament.

The plans have proved controversial, with some accusing Boris Johnson of trying to stop MPs from discussing Brexit. The UK is currently expected to leave the EU on October 31.

But North Wiltshire MP James Gray said it was normal for parliament to be prorogued during September, returning after a matter of weeks for the government to set out its plans in a Queen's Speech.

He claimed: "The outrage is misplaced. It largely comes from people who are keen to thwart Brexit altogether or those who want to ‘take no deal off the table’, ignoring the damage that would do to the PM’s negotiating tactics.

"I can imagine how frustrated they must feel about that. But then they were frustrated when the people voted to leave the EU in the first place."

Some MPs have gone to court to try and block the prorogation.
